Day 14-15 - St. Pierre for Bastille Day :)

St. Pierre

On July 13th we took a ferry from Fortune to St. Pierre, which is owned by France but in Canadian territory. We got up really early, so that we could board the ferry (Le Cabestan) at 9:00am. It left at 9:30am, and before we knew it we were in France.
St. Pierre was a small, pretty town. The houses and buildings were painted bright colours. There was a small little garden-type area near the water. People were already setting up for Bastille Day, there was a stage with the country's colours.
We checked into our hotel, which wasn't that great because it smelled like stale beer ew. After we put all our stuff in the room we went to the hotel restaurant and got crepes for lunch.
Esme and Gracie got crepes with whipped cream, ice cream and salted caramel. Me and dad had crepes with coconut, pineapple and LOTS of chocolate sauce. Mom's crepe was simple, with salted caramel only.  They were delicious!
After lunch we wandered around town for a while. We went to a lighthouse, wandered around taking pictures of houses, and looked for a patisserie that Mom had heard about beforehand. We had to go to the Tourist Information Centre because we couldn't find it!
We finally did, and we got some pastries to take back to the hotel. We continued our wandering, and then realised: there was practically NOTHING to do in St. Pierre. After more wandering, we decided we would see if we could get our tickets changed so we could take the ferry back to Fortune the next day, instead of on the 15th. The ticket office was closed, however, so we had to wait until the next day to see if we could change our tickets.
We returned to the hotel, where we did our own thing until dinnertime. We decided to go to the hotel restaurant again because everything else was so expensive. After dinner we took a walk down to the other side of town.
The next day we had our pastries for breakfast. I could only eat one of my two, pastries in the morning just isn't my thing. They were delicious pastries though.
Since it was Bastille Day, everything was closed. We returned to the patisserie and got more pastries, and got our tickets changed so we would take the ferry back at 1:30 instead of the 15th.
We went to the square by the water, where there was people performing on the stage set up the day before. We sat down on the grass, and I made flower crowns for me and Esme. There were lots of kids playing with silly-string, and we would have bought some. If one can didn't cost 4€.
After about half an hour, a canon went off and tons of blue, red and white confetti circles went flying into the air! We ran to catch them before they hit the ground. I got one of each colour, and the rest, that nobody got, blew all around the town.
About a half hour or so after that, we got back on Le Cabestan and went back to Fortune. From there, we started the drive to the Whale Watcher B&B.

  1. Oh my! those crepes sounded absolutely divine, Michaela! I would have had trouble choosing from that selection! (Much better than the scent of stale beer! Eeeww!)
Glad that you were able to take the ferry back earlier than planned, however your can always say you were in France on Bastille day! :-)
